The Lyceum
The Lyceum
Students attend weekly classes with a tutor, developing proficiency in the skills of classical education and learning to become effective rhetoricians—able to think, speak, write, and communicate truth well.
At the same time, parents attend or lead classes with their own peers, becoming proficient in the skills and principles of classical education so that they are equipped to lead and support their families at home.
The goal is not simply to educate the student, but to equip the entire family to pursue a classical Christian education together.
The Logos Lyceum is a nonprofit classical Christian learning community centered on the pursuit of Truth.
Logos is the Greek word for Word, reason, and rational principle. In John 1, Christ is revealed as the Logos—the eternal Word through whom all things were made. Our pursuit of truth is therefore ultimately a pursuit of Christ, who is Truth itself.
The School of Truth and Reason expresses this relationship: Christ is the Truth we seek, and reason is the faculty by which we seek and understand truth.
After more than twenty years of involvement in classical Christian communities, I began to see an opportunity to create a model that I believe could serve families for generations.
A classical Christian education is a gift. Yet I have also seen that it can be difficult for families to implement well without consistent support, understanding, and community.
In my experience, the students who excelled in classical homeschooling were often naturally gifted students and/or students whose parents already understood and embraced the vision of classical education. But many homeschooling parents did not have the support or training necessary to confidently lead a classical education at home, and their children ultimately suffered from that lack of support.
I want to change that.
The Logos Lyceum exists to support both students and parents in tangible, practical, and effective ways. We want to give students excellent instruction while simultaneously equipping parents with the knowledge, skills, and confidence to lead their families in a classical Christian education.
The Logos Lyceum is divided into three schools:
Grammar School — K–5
Lower School — 6–8
Upper School — 9–12
Students attend classes led by tutors one or two days each week. Classes may be organized by age, gender, or experience, depending on the content. For example, a student may participate in Literature and Composition with students in the same age group while taking Latin according to his or her level of experience.
While students attend their classes, parents remain on the Logos Lyceum campus and attend or lead a class with their own peers. These classes may be related to home education in any of the following ways:
Subject — learning how to use the curriculum and teach particular subjects
Skill — learning how to help a child develop skills needed for Speech & Debate
Stewardship — practical help for managing a large family while homeschooling
Spiritual — studying Scripture and growing in the faith necessary to lead a Christian home
In this way, the Logos Lyceum becomes a place where students are educated and parents are equipped—so that learning does not end when the school day is over, but continues in the home and throughout the life of the family.
